New Spider-Man Attraction Will Let You Be A Web Slinger
As most of us know, A Bug's Land was recently removed to make room for the brand new Marvel-themed Avengers Campus, which will feature several new attractions and food options to go along with the popular Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout. One of the highlights of the new area will be the yet-to-be-named Spider-Man attraction. Earlier this summer, we got a bit more information about the story line for the ride, which will see guests aiding Peter Parker as he wrangles in Spider-bots that have gotten loose. This past weekend at the New York Comic Con, Scot Drake, a creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, gave fans an idea of what we can expect from the new ride, saying:
“When the mischief that Peter Parker gets in, where Spider-bots are released all over the [Avengers] campus, he needs all of our help. That’s where we step up, we get in these vehicles, and we go on this crazy adventure through all different parts of the campus cleaning up and slinging webs right next to Spider-Man.”
Additionally, according to Marvel.com, “guests on the attraction will be able to shoot their own webs out of their wrists via immersive technology.” We're not sure exactly what this new technology will be, but expect it to be a modernized version of the tech used on Toy Story Mania. Initially it was thought that the ride vehicles would be similar to the popular Toy Story ride, but it seems we'll be getting a much more high tech, immersive experience.
As you can see from the concept image above, the riders aren't wearing any sort of device on their wrists, not to mention trying to navigate a one-size-fits-all device for riders would be quite difficult. This leads us to believe that there may be some sort of sensors reacting to riders' wrist movements. Regardless, it should be really fun to see how this one comes together. The new Spider-Man attraction is expected to open next year, along with other attractions like the Iron Man Experience, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle, all of which are a part of the global Avengers Initiative
